The selkie or seal-woman myth can be found in northern oceanside communities throughout Europe and North America. I frequently revisit (and highly recommend) Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ telling of the tale, “Sealskin, Soulskin”, from her book Women Who Run with the Wolves. The field recording at the beginning of this track was recorded on a beach near Skagaströnd. This story is a reminder that we can never truly be at peace until we embrace our own identity.
