Middle Name by Ali Angel

A middle name seems to me seem like an intimate piece of information about a person. I can’t say I know the middle names of many people in my life, and those that I do are those closest to me. It almost seems like a rite of passage to know that detail about somebody, you need to earn it.

“Middle Name” is about the obsessive, often disillusioned phase so many of us go through at the start of a new fling; the feelings of fear for heartbreak mixed with the simultaneous optimistic daydreams of what could be the start of a relationship. We imagine scenarios in our heads with these people that are so intimate and personal, yet we truly don’t even know these people yet nor if they’d even make us happy in the ways we’re imagining they will. We don’t even know their middle names.

I was inspired by, The Talking Heads, David Bowie and St. Vincent when making this song. I’m really happy with how dynamic, artsy and almost theatrical the song turned out to be with all of our production choices; its full of surprises and peaks and valleys and I think it’s overall a really fun ride.
