The Gates by Aisle 9

'The Gates' is a bit of a departure from my usual style. A post apocalyptic, Halloween flavoured hip hop instrumental, that takes it's original inspiration from the music style used in the cult film 'The Beyond' by Lucio Fulci. The track is a bit 'genre-fluid'!

The original film tells of a young woman who inherits an old hotel in Louisiana where, following a series of supernatural "accidents", she learns that the building was built over one of the seven gateways to Hell.

Originally just a piano sequence, until from a discarded DAT tape, an old glockenspiel melody appeared. Classic Bristol trip-hop, Dre style beats and some current modern chill hop all fuse together here. My love of retro synths, classical piano and even gypsy violin are given a look in.

If the tracks about anything, it's that fear that we're meddling in things we can't control. Opening a gate we can never close.
