The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I am not suggesting a theory of holism… I am thinking about transcendence, though not in a religious sense. I am thinking about transcendence in a metaphysical dimension—about that which goes beyond.

It may seem that music is merely a collection of notes arranged in a particular order, shaped by knowledge of compositional techniques, harmony, counterpoint, or metric systems. Yet my imagination suggests that a work of art is something more than technical proficiency alone.

When I create music, I think abstractly. I perceive a distinct pattern where others see randomness. I feel emotions—energy—and, guided by imagination and intuition, I follow that direction. This sensation is ephemeral. Without sufficient focus—and, more importantly, sensitivity and a developed aesthetic sense—it is easy to lose this refined, singular thought. Likewise, when intentions become questionable or overly materialistic, one may settle for mere convention. What ultimately emerges is often unpredictable, like the wind that suddenly changes direction.

Can my music be classified as jazz, funk, fusion, or world music, or is it better understood as a form that resists simple categorization, balancing at the intersection of these aesthetics? At present, I create music rooted in advanced rhythmic and harmonic complexity. I do not make music for the masses, nor for entertainment. I am interested in demanding art—art that exists beyond the logic of simplification and consumption.

Recording the album 'Odpowiednio Wyraziste' required an enormous amount of work, dedication, and countless hours in the studio. Yet such an experience brings immense satisfaction and ultimately compensates for the effort. Although the path to success is often long and difficult, the moment I see the results of my work makes everything worthwhile.

AISKANDER is a Polish jazz composer, arranger, reharmonizer, as well as guitarist, improviser, and music producer. He founded the Wrocław-based vocal and instrumental ensemble Mistrz Allegro, and is also the owner and founder of the Polish independent record label illumination Music. The artist mainly performs instrumental jazz-funk, jazz fusion, and world music.
