Bulverhythe Variations by Elaine Edwards

This suite of keyboard variations was mostly composed during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, 2020-22, and accompanies a series of photos taken on my iPhone on early morning runs along the seafront and beach in Bulverhythe, East Sussex. The images (of patterns and structures in the natural and manmade environment) and the music seemed to fall into a narrative of their own.

Meanwhile, Ken, my partner, inspired by the same environment, was writing in the imagined voice of a homeless person living near
the beach: an enigmatic character who might be a philosopher or a former private detective.

The images, music and text have now been incorporated into a live show by myself and Ken, premiered in May 2022. A selection of 32 images and the full text are now published as a book by Silverhill Press, St Leonards on Sea.
