Peripheries by Adam Tell

Peripheries (along with This Time with Feeling) are both very emotional albums for me, both without singing a single lyric. I've been in a weird patch emotionally the past few years, and expressing that through music has helped center me. There is a lot of aggression on this album, in contrast to TTwF. They aren't concept albums per se, but I like the idea of Peripheries as being outward-reaching, whereas TTwF is about being present in the here and now. I think it's important to do both things.

Most of the album was made with various hardware synths that I've acquired over the last few years. I've been an in-the-box (soft synths only) producer for most of the last 15 years, and it has been so refreshing to experiment and have fun with music outside of the computer. The piano is always a go-to, but sometimes it's nice to set up a sequence on a synth, press record, and see where it takes me.

Synths featured:
Korg Prologue 16 - all over the place, mostly used for chords and leads

Elektron Digitone - basslines on Lyra, various other bell-like sounds throughout

Elektron Digitakt - sampler that I resampled some things with, this is the bed of Lights Beneath the Water

Soma Lyra - some drone-work as well as distortion throughout, primarily featured on the song Lyra (namesake). I ran the Digitone through it mentioned above for distortion and weird delay effects

Erica Synths LXR-02 - drum machine/mono synths mostly featured on Centrifugal
