Immanuel from Your Eyes by Adam Baker

This was pretty much written overnight, and I sang it the next day at a Christmas service. I had been wanting to write a Christmas song and also a song about poverty and so I did both in one song. Not much ahs changed in the song except some lyrics in the second verse. A few things were going on when I wrote this. One was that I had been thinking a lot about issues like human trafficking, poverty and injustice. The other is I had been hearing numerous talks and sermons just about the name of Jesus.

So that’s really what the song is about, it is that the name of Jesus is hope it is salvation for the poor, broken and oppressed. And God is with us in our pain and suffering, that’s what Christmas is about, Jesus coming into the world, the start of our salvation.
