Idol by Abigail Toll

Abigail Toll’s second solo album 'Idol' is slated for release on 7
November 2025 on Superpang. Idol is inspired by an encounter
the artist had with Malta’s Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum—a 5,000-
year-old burial site. Toll’s soaring flute, droning electronics and
hypnotic vocal mantras are composed using the temple’s
resonant frequencies 70Hz and 114Hz which are said to affect
physiological sensations on the body. The music also evokes, to
terrifying and divine effect, the figure and archetype of the
goddess who was discovered lying within it. Reopening
questions and channeling her once more, asking: How has the
goddess survived? Perhaps just as a sound survives — through
what and who it touches across different dimensions. For Toll,
the music stirs a dialogue between ancient and contemporary
listening, expanding beyond sound pieces, into matter.

Idol arrives at a critical moment, as our world becomes increasingly devoid of symbols and their rites.

Berlin-based label Verlag will release the single ‘Idol’ and a re-
work of the track by Hüma Utku to precede the album’s
official release on Superpang. Toll will further collaborate with
multimedia artist Anton Filatov on a live A/V show as well as
an exhibition exploring the album’s acoustic, astronomical and
quantum themes, which will be presented at HOLON Berlin in
November ‘25.
