when i was a kid
i'd break into the backside of the museum of appalachia by sneaking my ford ranger up the backside of the mountain on a logging road

i did that so i could attend the tennessee homecoming. tix were $60

aint no way i'd afford that

but i really wanted to see ralph stanley and the clinch mtn boys

i hopped the fence and came in behind the food vendors. some folk noticed, but i dont reckon they said anything. i walked over to where all the antique tractors were runnin.i seen a feller i knew and he loaned his banjo. and we joined in a group of parking lot bluegrass pickers.

mennonites had some oatmeal pies sat out. now me, i wouldnt never steal from mennonites. my buddy wasnt as straight laced as me though, so we a had an oatmeal pie for lunch

later ralph stanley took the stage and sang bright morning star acapella style... an ol gospel number. i damn near cried
