The charango is a supercharged ukulele from Latin America that has 5 courses of double strings. It invokes the indigenous cultures of the Andes and certain sadness. This album uses the charango as a compositional tool to create new musical propositions. The melodies are catchy over simple but creative chord structures. The rhythms are strong and free, using a small surdo drum from Brazil called Tan Tan. This is the bass voice in a Samba group. Some songs use the triangle, most have a small guitar that resembles a Mexican Jarana playing rhythms and melodies. while others have an added bass ukulele, piano and a mini electric guitar strung like a Brazilian Cavaquinho guitar. Sung in Spanish, and English, a real bilingual album. There are songs about gender, hope, identity, social issues and just plain cute fun. Recorded in 2022 in Carlton, Melbourne by Abe Dunovits. Anai "Chilli" Wiche features vocals on the track "Desigualdad" (Inequality).
We don't need another music hero. We need more love to share, honesty and transparency. Abe's music is
sometimes cryptic, mostly uplifting, explorative and experimental, sometimes electronic and epic, but mostly songs of hope in an increasingly difficult world. .
