Lyrics

Albert had numbers up his sleeve
The kind you wear for life
The evil pen of evil men
Marked Albert and his wife
Long ago, they starved him
Very close to death
And every day he fought so hard
To draw another breath
He took his numbers with him
When died in Ninety-three
With a memory full of things
No man should ever see

They rounded us up like vermin
And they tried to snuff us out
Tell the children of tomorrow
Don’t leave any doubt

Old Albert lived so long
After he nearly died
And he carried history’s pain
He kept it deep inside
And he gave a page to me
And I held it in my heart
Until I saw the signs again
And read it from the start
Now I pass on his words
To make them understand
What was written in the numbers
So close to his old hand

They rounded us up like vermin
And they tried to snuff us out
Tell the children of tomorrow
Don’t leave any doubt

How can you deny
What the witnesses have told?
How can you ignore
Six million suffering souls?
How can you forget
Once you’ve had a look?
Don’t you dare deny
The blood those monsters took
From the trains into the camps
People put into ovens
They were fathers, they were mothers
They were sisters and brothers

They rounded us up like vermin
And they tried to snuff us out
Tell the children of tomorrow
Don’t leave any doubt
