I Knew I was home
floating in the ocean all alone
eyes closed on my back
in the sunshine all warm
it was a nice journey
but it was time to return
so much about myself
distance taught i learned

expected to be
a certain person
home has known me
for so very long
how to become myself
i wanna sing my own song
so the bird leaves the nest
and spreads his wings
only to hit the ground
and reality sets in
but he dusts himself off
and learns to fly
as he finds out
it only takes time
surrounded by
challenging community
nourished by
whats new to me
i learned life lessons
to help me soar
on the winds of expression
for evermore
i build my nest now
knowing i can trust
my song to call
with an honest touch
shining on old friendships
with a new light
being myself
with all my might
