Mother's Song from Our Lives by 13th Son

Of all the “personal” tracks on the album, this one is probably the most personal. I was born in Colombia and given up at birth by a woman who, for whatever reasons, could not look after me and give me the life she felt I deserved. I was adopted by an Australia couple and brought here when only a couple of months old. This song is a letter to both mothers – to the woman who birthed me and to my mum, the woman who raised me. I had wanted to write this song for a long time, but the opportunity never really presented itself. I wanted to write a song for my mum letting her now just how much she means to me and how thankful I am for all that she’s done for me. When I got this beat from M-Phazes that he’d labelled “Mother” I knew it was time to write that song. Juxtaposing the verse to my mum with another to my biological mother (who I do not know) just seemed a natural extension of the idea. © 2007
