SACAEA EP by SVARTEBOKA

SACAEA is the debut EP of Norwegian industrial duo SVARTEBOKA.
The Ep borrows its name from an event which seems originally to have been an ancient, annual Babylonian festival, Sacaea (Σάκαια), whose most striking feature was a ritual of social inversion. The slaves become masters, and the masters must crawl for their slaves.

The aesthetics of SVARTEBOKA is charged with a broad arsenal of musical references, especially from early Industrial music, Proto-Electro, and Techno, but also Trance, Noise music, Ghettotek, and Black Metal. Still, the music and expression are primarily about raw energy—escapist and radical. Driven by a desire to push themselves toward new, as yet unknown forms of expression, they remain faithful to the spirit that, around forty years ago, gave birth to the original techno music in the dark warehouses of Detroit’s ghettos as a form of protest music.

Distorted growls, tectonic rhythmic pulses, and disorienting melodic lines from rare Soviet synthesizers spread across the dance floor like a plague, where sweaty bodies jerk spasmodically with increasing speed, in sync with SVARTEBOKA´s ritualistic rebellion from the stage. The phenomenon of their live performances so far has earned them a reputation for a dark immanence lurking in the shadows of Oslo’s underground scene—even beyond the initiates.
